What San Francisco lacks in sun, it makes up for in charm. Much like the housing market, the weather in the city has been hot-cold, depending on the hour. Overcast and fog are followed by an unbearable heat wave, and then an evening so windy we forget it’s technically summer. Still, there’s an energy change: more rock star parking spaces when everyone else is out of town, the joy of watching fans don Giants gear as they walk east to Oracle Park, and a sense of calm like the blanket of high fog over Stern Grove as people representing the diverse and beautiful population of the Bay Area find a place for their picnic blankets on the grass or hillside. The best of summer is yet to come. Below are some of our can’t-miss ways (many events F-R-E-E) to close out the "summer."

Local Spotlight | Music

Outside Lands

You can find us dancing in the fields of our favorite 3-day weekend. This year, San Francisco’s biggest festival is headlined by The Killers, Sabrina Carpenter, and Sturgill Simpson. Others we can’t miss? Idris Elba, Kaytranada, Victoria Monet, Gryffin, STRFKR, and Post Malone. Plus, food isn’t just fuel at Outside Lands; it’s life. We can’t wait to revisit Abacà’s sisig fried rice, Koja Kitchen’s kamikaze fries, and Pink Onion’s pizza by the slice. From art installations to the zest of lemons on signature cocktails, there's something for everyone.

Stern Grove's Big Picnic Finale

Two days of music are an epic way to close out this 86-year tradition! Join Stern Grove for The Big Picnic weekend featuring chart-topping artists Sylvan Esso and Poolside on Saturday, August 24, followed by the Steel Pulse and living legend Chaka Khan on Sunday, August 25. It promises to be a memorable weekend under the canopy of trees.

Salesforce Park Rooftop Rhythms

Enjoy a soulful afternoon of live music downtown at Salesforce Park. Featuring the talents of homegrown Christian Kuria (a Vallejo native!), Hugo de la Lune, and August Lee Stevens, this brand-new outdoor concert offers a perfect summer escape: city rooftop meets lush park with stunning views of our skyline.
